class wiki

So this is my final blog for this class cant believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! time went by so fast. The class wiki was user friendly so I didn't have any issues with it. The wiki was well organize and the assignments were always straight forward so thumbs up to Professor Hamon. Using the wiki to do assignments was good, the videos could be replay more than once.  Even after the assignments were submitted you can always go back to the wiki and take notes if necessary. The assignment is available for every and it can be done at one's own convenient. Using a class wiki is a very good tool and I think that all professors should use it.

Blogging in class

Blogging in class is very fun, I look forward to it every class. I didn't like blogging at first, but now I get use to it. I have to get in the habit of reading other clasmates blog and making comments in order to get a grade for the week. It nice to share information with classmates and getting a feedback. Sometimes I wish I could blog everyday but I haven't gotten the chance to because  of my work schedule and school. I can only do 3-4 a week. I will try to continue blogging after I complete this class within my spare time. Our class is coming to an end so we can blog whenever we want. This our final week for writing blogs to get a grade!!!! I am surprise this will be my 24th Blog post!!!!

Using Google + in class

Using Google + in class has been a great experience. I have learnt a lot of  things about Google that I didn't know. I also had the chance to do class work using the different tools on Google. We did group activities including power point, it had a lot of features to it, that I find interesting. I also get the chance to like and comment on my friends profile when they make a post. I ended up using some of the tchniques that I have learnt about Google in another class and the outcome was great. 

Listening and Hearing

Do you think there is a difference between listening and hearing? If you said yes then you are correct. Listening is something you consciously choose to do. It requires concentration so that your brain processes meaning from words and sentences. Listening leads to learning. However on the other hand hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are hearing- impaired, hearing simply happens. I have learnt in my Strategies to Success class a symbol that the Chinese people use  for listening. According to them in order to listen effectively you must give your undivided attention, listen with your eyes, ears, heart. This means that you cannot be doing something else while listening you have to be focus and still.

How to be Independent

To be independent is a skill for people who want to take control of there lives and feel like they don't need others to accomplish their goals. I am this kind of person I like my own freedom and I also like to do things without caring what others might think. Most times you will be happy because you do what is best for you. These are some steps that can help you to become independent if you are not. First you have to accept your self, second you must believe in yourself and third you must accept the
world, fourth be your own hero, be self motivated and don't settle for anything less than you are worth, for comfort, for case or to be nice.

Best thing I have learnt in class

The best thing that I have learnt in class in APA format. Even though I am not 100% good at it, but I have learnt a lot about it. It can be frustrating at first, but after getting a hang of it, it will be a little easier. When I first did my paper and Professor Hamon started commenting all I saw was "APA issues." I was so irritated , in the next class period he sat with me and we went through Doc 2. He showed me the mistakes that I have made and how to correct them. Some of them were simple and easy to fix however the hardest part for me was the References. I have learned lot and I know I will have to do this format again for many other classes so I will have a head start and I can always relate to my examples . Here at South all the teachers ask for APA format so learning it now is very good and I might be able to help others to format there documents correctly.

Tutoring

Tutoring can help college students succeed. Some of the most successful students may be those who have mastered three important skills. The three skills are to understand college level work, learn skills of good time management and those who seek the support or help that they may need early in the game. Students who work at making an out-of-class connection with  their professor is sometimes the the stronger students in the class and that is very important. Here at South tutor is free so student should make the best of it. I personally can't make it to tutor as I would like to because of my job schedule but for the few times that  went to tutor for maths my grade on a test went up from a 'D' to 'A' . I suggest that everyone should  go to tutor, you will definitely see changes in your grades. You will get help one-on-one and the professor will be able to work problems are questions with you so that you can get a better understanding.  

How to prepare for exams

Preparing for your exams starts from the very first day of class. It is very important to pay attention in class, take notes and paying attention to the class syllabus . Most times you can be ahead of the class by following up with your syallabus at least 2 days or a week prior to class. By doing this you will be ready for exams and quizzes. Keeping your previous test papers to help you study for finals. It  will be of great help, enough thou here at South, most Professors refuse to give us back exam papers back saying that it is a rule made by the school. I dont like that idea at all, we should be able to see the mistakes that were made and be able to fix it so we don't make the same mistake again. Here are 9 tips of how to prepare for an exam.

Team Work

Teamwork can be define as work done by several associates with each doing a part but all subordinating personal prominence to the efficiency of the whole. These days you areteamwork is  required either at school or work . If someone fails to dohis/her part of the job that can screw up the entire task or assignment that is given. In order to have good teamwork the team shoul dhave the following: Effective communicatione effecient delegation, strong leadership, conflict managaement, trust, common goals, respect, Togetherness and avoid negativity.

Arranging your Document

How to best arrange your document for readers so that they can follow through and not get lost. There are four idea patterns that can help you to do this. The first one is  Hierarchy, it is consist of  the Thesis which includes a Topic 1, Topic 2 and a Topic 3 each of these topic contains details. The second form of arrangement is Sequence this includes time, space or priority. The third arranging is Response this includes Question and  Answer , Topic and Comment, Problem and Solution and also Cause and effect. The final arrangement is compare an contrast. With these patterns your reader will not get lost while reading you document.

Think positive

I can strongly relate to, the quote by Norman Vincent Peale that says “Change your thoughts and change your world.” Our actions are practical manifestations of our thoughts.  A change in our life can bring optimism or pessimism. In times of struggle and desperation, I find it hard to find the positive, and this leads my world in a bad direction. I have to constantly remind myself of a quote my mother would normally tell me all the time, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me.” That quote gives me the strength to change my thoughts and to change my world. We have to be careful of how we think because our brain adopts our thinking quickly. If you think negative then you will have negative thoughts and do negative things.  

Procrastination

What is Procrastination? Basically, procrastination is the act of putting off essential task until a later time. This I know we are  all guilty of . Most times we put off important things to do things that are not relivant and then we get backed up with the important work. Working and going to school full time is not easy at all, most time we don't have any spare time to surf the net ,play video games or even hang out with friends, I can agree with this. Most times I want to take a break from my books and go on social media but the next thing you know is I get carried away.  I usually set my alarm to remind me when to get off so I can complete my assignment or to study but sometimes when timeis up I end up turning off the alarm and say five more minutes and to my surprise five minutes has turned into thirty minutes. In my Strategies to success class we have been learning ways to aviod procrastination and it has been helping  I have made a few changes. I start giving my self rewards after completing my assesments on time, I take a break and watch tv and then back to work,  I have also created a study schedule.

New Position at work

I am a Medical Assistant, but I was working as a Receptionist in a Opthalmology office for almost two years.. Two weeks ago I told by my supervisor that I have been admiring me for the past months, and that I am doing a excellent job and that I have been very professional and helpful to the patients. I was so overwhelmed with all that good news even thou, I know I have always been.  She then told me that I have two opinions to choose from either to become a Tehnician or to become a Biller where I would submitt claims to the patients insurance company. Since as I went to schoool for Medical Assiting I figured it would be a great idea to choose technician. I started tarining last week and it has been great so far. I am so happy that I have been promoted at my job.

Writer's Voice

A writer's Voice can be defined as an individual writing style of an author, a combination of their common usage of syntax,dictation, punctuation, character development or dialogue. In every writing there is  a different voice, we just have to know what tone of voice to use. In my Doc 2 my voice will be expressed in a way to provide a sense that a real person is speaking and really care about getting the message across to my professor and fellow classmates. I will try to keep my voice consistent so that it will match my readers expectation. A lot of times I try to match people's voice and when I  actually see them in person they look nothing like what I had imagine .

I am in the progress of writing my Doc 2 essay, I am so eager to complete it and see the feedback backs from my audience . In my essay I will be analyzing and explaining the flipped  classroom technique to an academic audience.This is a very interesting topic and I think my reader(s) will be amaze about the different things that can be done in this setting. I tend to learn more in this type of classroom and I am sure that I am not the only one. I think professors should start using this technique in the classroom student will definetley like it. In this technique the teacher can clearly see if the students are making progress or not. Today I mention the topic to my coworkers and they were like what is that? After explaning it to them, they think  it is a very interesting technique an that it should be use in all grade level and not just college. So I must say a big thank you to my Professor Keith Hamon for introducing me to such a delightful technique.

How professional Blogger handles Purpose and Voice

The purpose for writing is to communicate to a particular audience. By understanding your purpose for writing makes you feel better and want to write. Purpose should focus on two major things, first focus is informing and second is persuading. Your voice has alot to do with your writing, and as my professional said "you cannot use your texting voice when writing a professional paper". He even when further on by giving us examples of different voices that we use everyday with our kids, coworkers, or husband etc and they are all different. So when writing professionally we have to be very careful about the voice that we use .

Thesis statement

My Doc 1 handles its thesis very well. The thesis focuses on the my essay and tells the reader what the essay will be about. The thesis was clearly stated and I think it has drawn my reader's attention which I know will lead to a discussion. This is basically what your thesis sentence should do in every essay. These are some  questions that should be considered after writing a thesis: Does my thesis answer the question? Does my essay supports my thesis? Is my thesis specific or strong?  If you have never asked yourself these questions you should to make sure everything is connecting.

How I handle my reader

When reading a essay, story or any form of paper, you have to think about some important things that will draw your readers attention 100%. One of the most important thing is how to handle your  reader by knowing what they are expecting from you. In my opinion the best way to do that is to have a great thesis sentence and supporting sentences that will bring across your idea or point.  It is  always best to get your point across to the reader and not bringing them around circles.  If you do that then fore sure you will lost them. Our readers will sometimes give a negative feedback but that should be a plus for us, by correcting the error or problem and make it better next time.

Writing in Groups

Hi everyone, tonight I will be talking about  the things that work and does not work writing in a group. Most times I rather working by my self because various reasons. Every one has a different point of view and the way how I might see something another person may not. If this happen most likely there will be a problem and the group project might not get done,or one person may end up doing all the work. Another point is that in groups one person most times end up doing 75% of the work. However working in groups also have some advantages it helps indivduals to interact with one another and share there different point of view. Most people find this enjoyable and alot of skills can be developed.

Flipping Classroom technique

Flipping classroom technique is a teaching model in which the traditional lecture and homework is flipped . I agree that flipping classroom technique is very good. Its make learning alot easier to me. It is more entertaining and will draw the students attention than just doing lecture. Students tend to do better in flipped classes .Flipping technique can be recorded and be assigned for classwork or homework..

Writing Process

Writing to learn is a process in which you have to practice in order to get good at it. This process can take a while before you actually get good at it, this can take a couple of  years.This writing is basically what you do for yourself and it is the most important aspect of the writing process . Its very good when you talk in groups you get to learn a lot of things that can help with the writing process.
